For many individuals, summer is right around the corner or has already begun. A time filled with traveling, campfires, and more laughs than imaginable, summer provides everyone with a break from the ordinary constraints of life. With that, summer is a time to live life to its fullest by trying new things and stepping outside of one's comfort zone. Doing that, though, can be easier said than done, so below are some quick and simple ways to make summer 2026 the most memorable break yet.

  1. Find a moment in time to step into nature - For many people, the school year is filled with hours of homework, shorter nights of sleep, and an extracurricular schedule that never seems to end. As a result, stress levels rise in pursuit of goals and milestones. While this can be productive for many, it can also lead to an uncontrollable amount of anxiety, which, in the end, for the majority of people, does not produce a positive outcome. Do not fret, though, as there are many ways to reset this summer and forget those stressful moments, including stepping outside. Over many years, nature has shown researchers that it can provide the perfect space for restoration. The sounds of birds and the colors of nature relieve the body, and when someone lacks time in these settings, the body’s rhythm can be inadequate. So, instead of letting that occur, summer is the perfect opportunity to embrace the outdoors. Whether it is a backpacking trip with friends or only a few minutes of walking in a neighborhood, any time spent outside can truly be revolutionary.

  2. Explore local markets and hometown treasures - In classic summertime movies, the synopsis goes something like this: a big event happens that somehow leads the family on a wild vacation across the U.S. or the world. For many individuals, while summer may not be filled with the same level of pazaz, the idea of traveling is still heavily ingrained in their minds. As a result, many people spend their summers traveling to see friends, family, or the world around them. On the contrary, though, some of the best ways to spend the summer are in one’s own hometown. With the rapidness of the school year, as said previously, priorities shift, causing people to forget about the beauty and unique opportunities around them. That said, even though the school year ends, small businesses and hidden treasures do not stop. Meaning that during the summer, if time seems to be slowing down while stuck at home, there are still multiple opportunities to immerse oneself in the community through markets, businesses, and museums.

  3. Discover new hobbies and activities - Self-exploration is the way humans begin to define who they are and who they want to become. Not everything comes naturally—school, extracurriculars, relationships—but to uncover what does work, time and effort are legitimate requirements. During the regular work and school year, people are unable to undergo this discovery process because of the time it takes. Having said that, does summer not sound like the perfect opportunity to truly put in the effort? Well, as a matter of fact, it is! Trying out new things, tangible or not, such as geocaching or going without an agenda for a day, can indeed open oneself up. Additionally, effort is a component of this discovery process, but for many, that part is just as difficult as finding the right amount of time. To compensate for these dilemmas, actually trying new things out with a friend can work wonders. Both parties can encourage one another, and in the end, a new passion may be unleashed.

Summer consists of more days by the pool or ocean with a popsicle in hand than imaginable, and while it sometimes seems like a waste of time, it truly can be a cleansing period. To reach that state, however, experiencing the summer to its fullest potential is nearly a requirement. By doing a couple of simple things, including stepping into nature, embracing community, and discovering oneself, that requirement can be easily fulfilled. Which, by the end of the few months, sets a new, positive tone for the entire year.
