2025 saw various inventions, revelations, and advancements. This is particularly true in the medical field. It is impossible to clarify exactly how many medical discoveries and conversations occurred last year; however, one of the most impressive ones was in cancer treatments. In 2025, four crucial developments in cancer research occurred. This included Artificial Intelligence research assistance, FDA approvals of certain therapies, liquid biopsy, and mRNA vaccines in treatment. Overall, each one is crucial to the future of cancer research.

Firstly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was one of the most useful resources in the research process. When the technology excelled in the health field in 2020, cancer researchers quickly prioritized its use. AI has only begun to transform the state of cancer research, including making early detection and patient care faster and more intricate. Also, AI has become crucial for cancer imaging processes. The technology uses image data to quickly identify biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. AI has been on everyone's radar over the last few years, for positive and negative reasons. Nonetheless, AI is expected to be a significant asset in the future for cancer treatments and research.

Secondly, the FDA-approved medical treatments and research contained many immunotherapy and targeted therapy approaches. Some of the various things included “immune checkpoint inhibitors, antibody-based therapies, antibody-drug conjugates, bispecific T-cell engagers, and targeted small molecules”, according to Dr Aishat Motolani.These treatments help doctors target specific individuals, allowing research to be more tailored to each person.​ This precise medicine is crucial to the future of cancer care, and many doctors are determined to see it fully developed.

Thirdly, treatment factors were not the only successes of 2025; advancements relating to the diagnostic front also surfaced. This specifically occurred in using liquid biopsies, a type of test that analyzes the blood and other body fluids of a patient for small fragments of tumor DNA or tumor markers. Some of these biopsies can pinpoint one cancer or multiple cancers at once, enabling doctors to find cancer earlier. Liquid biopsy treatments are relatively new and are not expected to replace standard cancer screening tests soon. However, they do pose an optimistic solution for the future for researchers and doctors.

Lastly, a promise for mRNA vaccines in personalized cancer treatments arose. Last year, these vaccines, which serve as a translator between proteins and genes, gained significant progress in cancer treatment. Compared to ordinary vaccines, mRNA vaccines are therapeutic, immunogenic, stable, and programmable. All of which makes them the more reliable option. Factors for these vaccines still require improvement, but due to the increase in research during the COVID-19 pandemic, those improvements have been made quickly.

In all, cancer research and treatment flourished in 2025, making it a remarkable year for the medical field. With all the new developments, doctors and researchers are looking forward to the upcoming year, and hopefully, new improvements are already in the development process for a successful year in medicine.
